How to “Beat the Heat” in Pittsburgh

For as cold as it gets in January, Pittsburgh can be a scorcher in June. This week has proven to be a week of wicked hot weather! Even my dog won’t go outside! But what do you do after 3 days of being cooped up inside … or heaven forbid you do not have A.C.!

Here are three ways to stay cool and still enjoy your day in Pittsburgh?

  1. PPG Plaza Fountain – Visit here and you will find 140 jets of water spraying into the air. These computerized water patterns create an opportunity of fun and refreshment – for adults and children alike! PPG Place also is host to some great restaurants – once you’ve cooled off, grab a great bite to eat!
  2. The Water Steps at North Shore Riverfront Park – Located by PNC Park, this beautiful waterfall exhibit offers a “non-slippy” wading location. Created with local sandstone blocks, the waterfall offers a relaxing and “cool” place to go in those dog days of summer! And when you’re done – check out a baseball game! The Pirates are in 2nd place and in the running for 1st!
  3. Kayak Pittsburgh– Open 7 days a week, Kayak Pittsburgh is found downtown on the North Shore near PNC Park. There’s no reservation required and you can set your own course – paddle around the Point or on any three of the rivers. You’re the captain of your own “ship” so enjoy!

Beat the Heat and enjoy the ‘Burgh!
